INTRODUCTION

The Canadian
music industry is undergoing fundamental changes, faced with
the challenges of copyright infringement in a global digital
economy. Illegal downloads from the internet are negatively
affecting new artist development. Creative works should never
go to waste. We have so much talent in this country but very
little opportunity. SOCAN has statistics that state only 2%
of our musicians ever reach any real financial success. Most
Canadian artists either live on or below the poverty line.
Canadian artists are suffering. The CSRA. was established
to support Canadian musicians by creating new opportunities
through composition and recording grants. |

Canadian
municipalities are operating their schools with a financial
shortfall and arts programs suffer the most. The ability of the
government to provide music education in its curriculum is
diminishing. Still, music is big a part of our everyday lives. We
believe Canadians should have an equal opportunity for music
education. This is especially true for young Canadians. Music
embodies the creativity and spirit of Canadians. It helps define
who we are and reflects the richness of Canadian culture. The
Canadian Society for the Recording Arts will facilitate funds
through donations to support the advancement of music education. |
